An exhibition in Het Waalres Museum in The Netherlands shows a large number of sketches, done by ECOHB’s president Peter Schmid from March 28th until June 20th 2010, open Wednesday – Sunday 13:30 – 17:00 h.
The exhibition ‘Wie tekent ziet meer’ = ‘One who is drawing is able to see more’ . Travel drawings, made by architects also contains drawings, done by Wolf Schijns, who was not only a PhD researcher of our president, but also an assistant professor at his chair at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Schijns’ drawings are dealing mainly with his research on Vernacular Architecture in Mali, Africa.
The exposed oeuvre of Peter Schmid includes
The digital projections (also on DVD) are made by Gabriella Pal-Schmid.
Het Waalres Museum, although located in a Dutch village – Waalre in North-Brabant, and relatively small, owns one of the world’s largest damask collections, containing more than 1000 pieces from 1550 up to 1950.
One of the founding member organizations of ECOHB is the Dutch or the ‘Netherlands Institute for Building-Biology and Ecology’ – ‘nibe’. As insiders know – the ‘birth’ of ECOHB took place in Desenzano sul Garda in Italy. The ETH (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule) Zurich architect – Michiel Haas was a representative as the director of the ‘nibe’ institute, at the Desenzano Constitutional Meeting of ECOHB in 1992.
Since this time, Haas made his doctorate thesis with the founder president of ECOHB, as his first supervisor, at the Netherlands Eindhoven University of Technology in 1997. Dr. Haas received the ECOHB AWARD for his intensive co-operation with ECOHB during an International Workshop at the University of Semarang, Indonesia in 2000.
Professor dr. ir. (engineer) Michiel Haas held his ‘Inaugural Lecture’ dealing with (freely translated from Dutch) ‘LCA – Jongleren met Milieugetallen’ – ‘LCA (Life Cycle Analysis) – Juggle (or Learning at an Early Age) with Numbers and Numerals Concerning Environment’ at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands on November 20th, 2009.
In his introduction at this ‘Inaugural Lecture’, the ‘rector magnificus’ of the Delft University of Technology mentioned Haas’ partnership with ECOHB. We wish professor dr. ir. Michiel Haas the very best in his further relevant work in the field of environmentally conscious and healthy building, and we extend these warm regards to his family.

Heinz Frick, a citizen of Liechtenstein, always ready to serve, belongs to the pioneers of both intensively sustainable architecture and bridging East and West. He learned various professions as carpenter, engineer, architect, researcher, teacher, and organizer, all from the basics up. He not only propagated a (w)holistic approach in building, but he practiced it as well. Heinz regularly traveled – researching – throughout the world, mostly accompanied by Regula, his wife, who also assisted him. Frick worked in Europe with an office in Ruggell, and in different parts of Asia, like Indonesia and Nepal.
There is now a map page on the website that shows the Global Partners and Members of ECOHB. This map will be updated with more Partners and Members in the next few weeks.
Partners are organizations or institutions of education for Bau Biologie (Building Biology) and Ecology. Members are companies, groups or individuals that practice Bau Biologie (Building Biology) and Ecology.

The Global Network of Organizations for Environmentally-Conscious and Healthy Building was founded at Desenzano sul Garda on April 4, 1992. The members are institutions with common objectives with respect to a better quality of living in relation to the whole built environment. Scientific, technical, artistic, and practical aspects are integrated. ECOHB aims the following topics:
Reformulation of the regulations affecting constructional engineering and architecture to incorporate aspects relating to health and environment.
Inclusion of principles of ecology and ‘building biology’, as well as requirements concerning human and environment, in guidelines, standards, laws, orders, and rules relating to subsidy.
Full declaration of the contents and effects of building materials and products in order to avoid pollution and to promote well-being and health in buildings, settlements and cities.
Assistance with the development, production and distribution of building products and technologies designed to save energy, preserve resources and promote health.
Implementation of joint research projects dedicated to the foundation, development and application of methods of construction that preserve environment and promote health.
International exchange of research work concerning built environment that will satisfy human and ecological requirements.
Establishment and development of a network of databases.
International adjustment of the content of teaching, curricula and qualification requirements for building experts.
Introduction and application of this manifesto into every area of building, which serves living activities and life itself.
